2012 was a pretty special year for iPhone games, and it ended on a suitably classy note. Interlocked topped the December iPhone Qi game chart with its absorbing take on three-dimensional puzzling. Not far behind in third place, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy IV marks a sizeable step forward for the classic JRPG series. This 3D update to the 1991 classic marks the point at which Eastern role-playing games started dealing with darker themes and more complex characters. Down in sixth place, G5’s Build-a-lot 4: Power Source swiftly follows up on the success of Build-a-lot 3 via more of the same engrossing property-management gameplay – this time with an eco-friendly theme. Finally, at #10 in the chart, we have Minigore 2, the much-anticipated follow-up to the game that spawned a thousand twin-stick shooters. This one dials the monster-blasting action up to 11.
December was also a strong month for iPhone apps, with mental and behavioural health assistant 1-800-Therapist taking the #1 slot. It provides up-to-date doctor-reviewed news and links to help you find assistance for a host of addictions and mental health issues. In second place, myPDV iDocs from Softech allows you to scan in and organise your important documents and loyalty cards. Close behind in third place, FitGirl App supplies a series of exercise routines specifically formulated for women – perfect for helping you get in shape following an indulgent Christmas. If it’s your home that needs a little TLC, though, check out Remodel Or Move – Interior Design down in seventh spot. It allows you to flick through a number of room designs, storing and annotating the ones you like in an “Idea File”. Groovy.
We’ll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which iPhone games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the iPhone Quality Index now.
