Grepolis is a free browser based online strategy game by InnoGames set in the Ancient Greece, it is your task to build up your small Polis to a huge metropolis, establish a powerful army and navy and finally conquer islands far away.
Are you ready to conquer the Olymp in the footsteps of Ulysses, Achilles and other Greek heroes?
On your trip to glory and honor, you should also take care of the gods of the Greek Parthenon: Zeus, Hera, Athena, Hades or Poseidon. Their favor could be essential in your victory or defeat.
Grepolis features amazing graphics and an appealing concept. The strategy and build-up game takes place in ancient Greece, and it reflects the extremely dynamic and progressive time.
Grepolis features various research institutions where you have the opportunity to explore a variety of technology levels, which gives you a great game advantage.
Buildings
In Grepolis, you may build buildings in order to expand your polis or village. Every building has a different function, whether it would be to order the construction of other buildings, for the recruitment of units, for resources and others. Most buildings have requirements also, which must be built before the building may be built. All buildings are built through the Senate and each building gives you points.
There are also eight special buildings which give your village a unique bonus. You may only build one from each side, so plan on which special building you want to get.
Units
You may build units in order to attack other villages or defend your own. Land units can be used to pillage other villages on your own island, whilst naval units can be used to transport land units to other islands or can be used to attack others naval ships. Each land unit has one of three weapon types, as well as three defensive figures which show how well it can defend against each weapon.
You may build land units through the Barracks (with the exception of the Militia). Naval units can be built through the Harbor.
Research
In the Academy, you have the ability to research new technologies. These technologies may improve an existing action, may make new units available to you or can improve certain unit types. These researches are unique to a city, so every city that any player owns could have different technologies, therefore inducing strategy!
Technologies can be researched with normal resources and an expendable resource called Research Points. For every academy level you build, you get 4 research points which can be used to research even more technologies.
Gods
In Grepolis, there are five gods, Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Athena and Hades, with Artemis being available only in Hero Worlds. Each god can enact four different divine powers (which affect different things such as troop attack or resource income or even defence) and call upon two unique mythical units.
In the Temple you can select which god you would like to worship. Each city can choose which god to worship, however each city can only worship one god at a time. The higher the level of your Temple, the more favour you earn from your chosen god. You can spend this favour to enact divine powers or call upon mythical units.
What god is right for your city depends on your situation. It is therefore quite useful to change the god you worship many times throughout the game, as well as having different gods for each city. Do this wisely, for when you switch gods you lose all your favour as well as mythical units and divine powers from your previous god.
Divine Powers may only be cast upon certain things. Eg. a divine power that affects troops must be cast upon a troop movement.
